Description

The Ugly Truth: Sexual Exploitation and Abuse by Humanitarians and Peacekeepers

The webinar is facilitated by Panos Moumtzis, Director of the Senior Transformative Agenda Implementation Team (STAIT), and includes the following speakers:

William Lacy Swing

  • IASC Champion on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA); and
  • Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Mohammed Fall

  • Humanitarian Country Team Focal Point for PSEA; and
  • UNICEF Representative for the Central African Republic (CAR).

Sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) by humanitarians and peacekeepers represent a collective failure to protect the people whom the UN, NGOs, and international organisations are supposed to keep safe. SEA is a serious issue of misconduct, incidents of SEA continue to persist, and needs renewed focus. It is everyone’s problem and everyone’s responsibility.

Speakers will present some practical steps Humanitarian Coordinators, Agency Representatives, Country Directors, humanitarian workers, and peacekeepers in the field could take to stop SEA in its tracks.
