System-wide Scale-Up protocols activated in Somalia
On 11 August 2022, the IASC Principals agreed to activate the humanitarian system-wide Scale-Up protocols in Somalia for the next 6 months, to urgently support the ongoing drought response and famine interventions in the country. The relevant IASC-agreed protocols that apply are:
- Protocol 1: Humanitarian System-Wide Scale-Up Activation - Definition and Procedures
- Protocol 2: ‘Empowered Leadership’ in a Humanitarian System-Wide Scale-Up Activation
With immediate effect, this Scale-Up activation should serve to streamline our internal emergency procedures and mobilize the operational capacities and resources needed to match the scale, complexity and urgency of this crisis, in coordination with national and local partners. It is worth noting this Scale-Up activation is an internal IASC designation to bolster the capabilities of IASC members, and is not intended for public advocacy or resource mobilization.
To cover the emerging needs and overcome the response challenges, all IASC partners are urged to prioritize the necessary support to bolster our deep-field presences, deploy well-equipped teams, and front-load resources towards the Somalia operation. .
