Sep 2019
9 a.m. — 10 a.m. (UTC)

Online

As part of the efforts under the workstream on Greater Transparency, Publish What You Fund is organising a webinar to discuss the progress of the humanitarian user needs research. Please see more information below and here.

Monday, 9th September, 10-11am BST and 4-5pm BST

What are the information needs of humanitarian actors on the ground and how can they be met?

"Join our interactive webinar to find out more about our work to understand information needs on the ground, what we’ve learned so far, what we’re doing next and how you can help. Having just returned from field work in Iraq and mid-way through this timely research programme, we have some fascinating insights and reflections that we want to share with those working in the humanitarian, transparency and open data space.

Three years ago, 59 major humanitarian aid donors and implementers brokered the ‘Grand Bargain’ and set the ambitious goal of achieving $1 billion in savings to address the gap in humanitarian financing. One of its commitments was improved transparency of humanitarian spending.

While significant gains have been made, the full potential of more transparent humanitarian information is yet to be realised. This can only happen if the information made available is actively used and benefits local and national humanitarian responders.

Earlier this year, Publish What You Fund and Ground Truth Solutions embarked on a research programme to understand what challenges humanitarian actors face, and whether and how improved transparency and greater information sharing can help. We are assessing whether open data standards, platforms and tools need to change to make information more useful and accessible to those on the front lines.

Having completed our desk research and online survey, and mid-way through our in-country research, we are keen to share our interim findings. Please join us on 9th September to discuss our learning and insights so far and how the research will feed into the second phase of the Grand Bargain’s transparency work stream.

The webinar is open to anyone with an interest in humanitarian transparency."
