IASC Briefing on Opertionalizing Meaningful Participation and Leadership of Local Actors in Humanitarian Action (postponed)
Local actors, including civil society organizations, women’s and youth organizations, national and local authorities and importantly, affected communities are critical in every humanitarian operation. Capacity sharing and working with local actors as equal and strategic partners is a priority for humanitarian operations and their leadership. Since the World Humanitarian Summit in 2016, efforts have been made to increase funding for local actors and strengthen the engagement and leadership of local actors in coordination structures. Nevertheless, more needs to be done to achieve aspirations for a more localized response.
The objective of the briefing is to discuss the operationalization of meaningful participation and leadership of local actors in humanitarian action including opportunities and challenges for collective action. It will also be an opportunity to discuss the recently endorsed IASC Guidance on Strengthening Participation, Representation and Leadership of Local and National Actors in IASC Humanitarian Coordination Mechanisms.
