IASC Event - Navigating truth in crisis: The dual role of AI in harmful information and humanitarian action

08
May 2025
3 p.m. — 4.30 p.m. (UTC)

Virtual

In an era where harmful information, misinformation and disinformation can exacerbate humanitarian crises, this session explores the complex interplay between technology and truth. Artificial Intelligence is both a challenge and a tool in this landscape—fueling the spread of false narratives while also offering innovative solutions to detect and combat them. This event will delve into how AI can be used for anticipatory action in humanitarian contexts, including monitoring and assessment. It will cover predictive analytics and early warning systems, providing participants with practical insights and tools to enhance their crisis response capabilities.

The key learning objectives of the webinar are to:

  • Identify the key challenges posed by misinformation and disinformation in humanitarian crises.
  • Explain the dual role of AI in both spreading and combating misinformation.
  • Analyze the ethical implications of using AI in the fight against misinformation.
  • Evaluate strategies for harnessing AI to detect and combat false narratives.

More details on panelists and connection information will be shared closer to the event.
