This paper draws on the discussion note, co-authored by Martin Rama and Hans Peter Lankes, “The economic policy response to the COVID-19 crisis,” and on contributions by experts across the World Bank Group, including all Global Practices; the Development Economics Vice Presidency; the Fragility, Conflict and Violence and Gender Global Themes; regional and country teams; and others.
This policy paper seeks to:
- Ensure coherence and address cross-sectoral linkages for containing the pandemic, protecting people and the economy, and stimulating recovery
- Balance policy options coherently across sectors & objectives
- Deepen focus on leadership, governance, communication and 'whole of society' engagement
- Inform policy choice and design in an integrated manner across sectors in specific country contexts
