IASC Weekly - Humanitarian Affairs in Uganda
New York
Today we have a few wonderful speakers lined-up and we are very grateful that they have made the time available in their busy schedules to be with us here today. First of all Philippe Verstraeten joins us from the Uganda office after heading OCHA Guinea since January 2009. He has also worked with OCHA in both Sudan and Chad. Philippe has over ten years experience in humanitarian affairs and a wealth of experience in transition, crisis management, preparedness and humanitarian coordination. Prior to OCHA, Philippe worked with NGOs such as ACF, MSF and Oxfam in Afghanistan, Burundi, Somalia, and Sudan. He holds a Master degree in Health Systems Management from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
In addition to Philippe, we also have Jennifer McAvoy. She is Officer-in-Charge at the Protection and Displacement Section (PDS). As follow-up on a panel discussion that the IASC organized in July, Jenni will talk about humanitarian engagement with non-State armed groups. A group that straddles the fields of both our speakers today is the Lord’s Resistance Army.
