IASC Weekly (NY) - Launch of SPHERE
New York
Dear Colleagues,
I am very pleased to invite you to the Global Launch of the Revised Sphere Handbook: Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response on Thursday 14 April in New York and other cities around the world.
In New York, the meeting is organized by the IASC/ECHA Secretariat, InterAction, and the Sphere Project and will take place from 11.30 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. in OCHA's Conference Room 1 at 380 Madison Avenue (6th floor). The aim is to raise awareness of the standards developed by the Sphere Project, highlight what is new in the 2011 Edition and enhance the dialogue between donors, practitioners, policy-makers and representatives of the affected populations on quality and accountability of humanitarian assistance.
This launch represents an important milestone for the humanitarian sector. The Handbook constitutes the Project’s core pillar, and as the flagship publication and reinforces the aim of improving the quality of assistance to people affected by disaster. All participants will be presented with a complimentary copy of the SPHERE Handbook at the end of the session.
