IASC Weekly (NY) - on the Mass Media
New York
Message from the IASC Secretariat
Dear colleagues,
Please find below the agenda for the next meeting in New York, which will take place on Friday, 4 November 2011, 11h30-12h30, in OCHA's Conference Room 1, 6th floor, 380 Madison Avenue.
Agenda:
The Impact of the Mass Media on Humanitarian Assistance
Mr. Tim Peek, Executive Producer at NBC, will explain why the current news cycle is incompatible with the humanitarian aid agenda. He will address some common misperceptions idealistic organizations have about dealing with journalists and introduce a digital media production model that allows field staff and communications officers to better tell stories.
Background:
Tim Peek has worked in almost every news medium there is: ran the college radio news operation, reported and edited at newspapers, investigative producing at syndicated and network news, breaking news producer, senior producer, internet and new media producer and executive. He devoted the past several years to new media at NBC News where he founded a new media production studio within the news division. Tim Peek currently leads NBC's organizational change from traditional ways of producing, distributing and telling stories to ways more in line with a web-dominated mediascape.
