Please see below an update from workstream 2 (More support and funding tools for local and national responders) on their past and upcoming activities.

1. Localisation conferences

The Asia Pacific localisation conference held in Jakarta on 27-28 August 2019 was the last of three regional events being organized by the Grand Bargain localisation workstream to broaden the dialogue on localisation, to understand better the national and regional experiences of localisation, and to advance guidance products for the workstream. The event was hosted by the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre) and co-organised by IFRC and the Government of Switzerland on behalf of the workstream with funding support from ECHO. The conference was opened by Indonesia Red Crescent Society (PMI) Chair and Indonesia Vice President Mohammed Jusuf Kalla.

The Africa regional conference was held in Addis in 15-16 July and was hosted by the African Union while the Middle East regional conference hosted by the Jordan Red Crescent Society on 29-30 July was held in Amman. The three regional events brought together a total of 290 participants majority of whom (52%) are local and national actors – governments, local/national NGOs, and Red Cross National Societies - from 41 countries. Highlights from the conferences can be found on a dedicated page on the workstream’s website.

The global concluding conference which will also serve as the Localisation workstream’s planning meeting will be held in Brussels on 23-24 October 2019 to be hosted by ECHO.
