The reform of the United Nations development system (UNDS) is mandated by the General Assembly of the United Nations in Resolution A/RES/72/279 of 31 May 2018, backed by strong senior leadership and unanimous support from Member States.
Following extensive deliberations and consultations, the new IASC Work Plan has been agreed by the Principals, to deliver on their Strategic Priorities for 2019-2020.
The IASC workplan outlines the Strategic Priorities for the IASC and how each of the formal subsidiary structures under the IASC will focus their efforts on delivering against them. It gives, for each strategic priority, the anticipated outcomes, the actions towards each, and examples of supporting actions that could contribute.

This document sets out the new Inter Agency Standing Committee’s (IASC) structure and its working methods to ensure that it is better fit for purpose and able to focus on its original mandate, as laid out in General Assembly resolutions. The IASC was established following the adoption of UN General Assembly 46/182 in 1991.
